Some people ask God for forgiveness and then spend the next ten years punishing themselves anyway.
That is not humility. That is a prison.
Repentance means turning. It means naming what was wrong, bringing it to God, making things right where you can, and walking in a different direction.
It does not mean dragging your old life behind you like a chain.
1 John 1:9 says that when we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us and purify us from unrighteousness (NIV).
So if you have confessed it, turned from it, and are moving forward, stop building your identity around the thing Jesus came to redeem.
You can remember the lesson without worshiping the guilt.
You can own your past without living inside it.
repent. receive grace. move forward.
