The church was never supposed to be a showroom for people who figured everything out.
It is a place for people who need Jesus.
Which means all of us.
Jesus repeatedly moved toward people others avoided. Tax collectors. Sinners. The rejected. The ashamed. The people with reputations.
That does not mean He celebrated everything they did. Love and truth were never enemies.
But He did something many people still struggle to do: He made room for the person before their life looked cleaned up.
Luke 5:32 records Jesus saying, “I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance” (NIV).
If somebody thinks they have to become respectable before they can walk through the door, we have missed something.
The message is not “sin does not matter.”
The message is: your sin does not make you unreachable.
Come as you are. Do not stay as you are. Let Jesus do what only Jesus can do.
